The UNHCR And IntraHealth—Working To Fight HIV/AIDS In Southern Sudan

IntraHealth has been selected by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to lead a new program that aims to reduce the impact of HIV in Southern Sudan. IntraHealth has been working with the Sudanese People’s Liberation Army through a CDC-funded program to prevent a rise in HIV infection rates among the army. The UNHCR program will expand this work to other uniformed cadres—policemen, firemen, wildlife managers and prison officials—and their families.

Partnership with Southern Sudan's Military to Fight HIV Featured at International AIDS Conference

August 5, 2008, Chapel Hill, NC—IntraHealth International’s work to gear up the Southern Sudanese military to fight HIV/AIDS is featured at a session on HIV programs in conflict and post-conflict settings on August 6, from 4:30 to 6:30 PM, at the XVII International AIDS Conference. The session—co-chaired by IntraHealth’s Carol Karutu—is part of the week-long conference in Mexico City focusing on new research and major challenges in the global response to AIDS.

Project NOVA Honored With A Burns Supper Donation

Project NOVA recently received a donation from the Burns Supper (the third donation provided to the project), a charity event in Armenia hosted by the British Embassy in honor of Scottish poet Robert Burns. This donation purchased equipment for maternal and child health care in several of the health facilities Project NOVA supports in Armenia. The equipment included an ultrasound examination device, an incubator, a neonatal breeze lung ventilator, neonatal reanimation equipment, a patient monitor and a syringe pump.
