Panama

We've worked in Panama and throughout Central America to strengthen health sectors and address the HIV epidemic among high-risk populations. In Panama, we focus on interventions to improve the quality of care and reduce stigma against people living with HIV.

We partner with the government, higher education institutions, NGOs, and civil society to improve the preservice education of health workers and their capacity to deliver high-quality, comprehensive HIV and AIDS care and treatment.

Selected Achievements

Developed and helped 20+ higher education institutions across Central America integrate a new HIV curriculum into their nursing, medical, or other health professional training programs.

Utilized the OPQ approach in 100 hospitals, 37 HIV clinics, and 65 health centers to support training of over 10,000 health workers in HIV counseling and testing, stigma and discrimination prevention in Central America.

Through the establishment of two new cadres of health workers in Central America, retained more than 4,000 people at risk of dropping out of ART, and recovered 2,570 people who had dropped out of treatment.

Trained and deployed 27 adherence promoters to work across 30 HIV clinics in Central America
