Yesterday, IntraHealth International and 14 other global health organizations launched the Frontline Health Workers Coalition at the Kaiser Family Foundation in Washington, DC. More than 150 representatives of nongovernmental organizations, the US government, nonprofit organizations, and others participated in the event, which was moderated by Dee Dee Myers, managing director of the Glover Park Group and former White House press secretary for President Clinton.

World Population and Health published a journal issue dedicated to exploring the challenges faced by the global health workforce. Drawing on IntraHealth’s experiences addressing health workforce issues, several IntraHealth leaders and staff contributed.

CapacityPlus recently began offering “code bounties” to engage more people in the global community that supports the iHRIS Suite of open source software for the health workforce.

These code bounties are small projects with narrow scopes of software development work and small monetary awards intended to incentivize more developers to contribute to advancing iHRIS.

Last month, a number of African health ministers recommitted to making more investments in the health sector, building greater health research capacity, accelerating the response to noncommunicable diseases, and employing eHealth technologies to improve the efficiency, quality, and use of health services, among other things. These commitments were made in the form of eight resolutions that resulted from the 54^th Conference of the East, Central, and Southern African (ECSA) Health Ministers.
