Karen Blyth

Former Director of East Africa Programs

Karen Blyth has more than 28 years of leadership and technical program management experience in public health programming with expertise in HIV/AIDS integrated services, family planning, maternal and child health, and health systems strengthening/human resources for health.

She joined IntraHealth in 1999, first as the associate director of program development for the global USAID-funded PRIME II Project and later becoming chief of party for three USAID-funded Rwanda projects before returning to IntraHealth’s Chapel Hill office in 2008 as the HIV/AIDS programs director. Prior to joining IntraHealth, Blyth served as the West Africa Officer for Management Sciences for Health on the USAID-funded BASICS, a child survival global project. She also has held other US and resident leadership positions for Management Sciences for Health, EngenderHealth, and the US Peace Corps in Senegal, Mali, Seychelles Islands, Morocco, Kenya, Madagascar, and Washington, D.C. Blyth’s strengths include technical proposal development, program design and implementation, and leading teams to desired program results. She is fluent in French.
