Dominican Republic

Since 2011, IntraHealth has assisted the government in a comprehensive program to strengthen its human resources management systems and related health workforce policy and advocacy efforts with a goal of improving health services, particularly HIV/AIDS care and treatment. These efforts have contributed to long-term policy reforms, cost savings, and increased accessibility and use of HIV/AIDS, family planning, and other key services. In 2014, USAID named the IntraHealth-led CapacityPlus project’s partnership with the Dominican Republic as one of its top ten case studies of best practices in health systems strengthening.


Selected Achievements

Revealed 10,000 ghost workers through a payroll analysis in the Dominican Republic saving the Ministry of Health $6.2 million for reinvestment back into the health system.

Enhanced the quality of prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and other key services by designing workshops reaching more than 200 health workers in 7 out of 9 health regions in the Dominican Republic.
