New Website for the Global Health Workforce Challenge

Led by IntraHealth International, CapacityPlus is the USAID-funded global project uniquely focused on the health workforce needed to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. Worldwide, there is a shortfall of four million health workers who are needed to increase access to critical health care services.

Placing health workers at the center of every effort, CapacityPlus helps partner countries achieve significant progress in addressing the health worker crisis in order to reach “universal access” targets (in areas such as HIV/AIDS, family planning, and maternal, newborn, and child health) set forth by the Millennium Development Goals. It builds on the accomplishments of the Capacity Project, which worked in 47 countries.

The new CapacityPlus website (www.capacityplus.org) features:

    • News and stories from the project
    • Tools, resources, and publications in its Knowledge Library
    • Links to health workforce news from around the globe
    • A listing of relevant conferences and meetings
    • A blog with perspectives on the global health workforce challenge—and solutions.

CapacityPlus offers state-of-the-art expertise, models, tools, training, and analyses adapted to each context. These services help countries move closer to having the right health worker in the right place with the right skills and support. The project works with public, nonprofit, faith-based, and for-profit organizations contributing to better human resources for health.
