Antigone Barton is the writer and editor of Science Speaks, and for the Center for Global Health Policy.A 2011 Nieman Journalism fellow at Harvard, Antigone worked in Africa from 2009 to 2010 supporting Zambian journalists as a Knight Health Journalism Fellow for the International Center for Journalists and helped one of Zambia’s major daily newspapers establish its first dedicated health reporting beat.For 10 years Antigone was a newspaper reporter and editor in south Florida, where she covered health, criminal justice, and social services. She was awarded a World Affairs Journalism Fellowship from the International Center for Journalists in 2007 to cover the U.S. response to the HIV epidemic in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, and her reporting on Palm Beach County’s AIDS epidemic was recognized by the National Association of Black Journalists.Her work also has been recognized by the Society for Professional Journalists with its Sigma Delta Chi award for deadline reporting, and by the Florida Press Club.A native New Yorker, Antigone spent a decade teaching in New York and Virginia public schools before starting her journalism career.Contact her at abarton@idsociety.org.
