Central America Capacity Program

IntraHealth is working to develop comprehensive care and treatment services for people living with HIV in Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Panama through the Central America Capacity Program. IntraHealth is leading this five-year, $7 million USAID-funded program, and working with ministries of health, universities, public and private institutions, and community organizations.

Building on the successes of the Capacity Project, the program aims to:

  • Strengthen the capacity of human resources for health in the region to deliver high quality and comprehensive HIV/AIDS care and treatment services
  • Decrease the stigma around people living with HIV
  • Remove barriers to care and treatment
  • Develop and apply best practices for a comprehensive care delivery system appropriate to locally available resources
  • Develop an HIV/AIDS training and mentorship program for health professionals
  • Address underlying gender issues that affect the spread of HIV
  • Integrate treatment programs with community-based support networks.

The project is scheduled to run through September 2014.
