Sheila Leatherman and Joseph P. Davis III Join IntraHealth's Board of Directors

IntraHealth International welcomes two new members to its board of directors: Sheila Leatherman, MSW, CBE, Hon FRCP, and Joseph P. Davis III. Leatherman brings decades of experience in health care policy, research and quality of care, and Davis brings deep expertise in entrepreneurship, business development and financial services to the helm of the organization's efforts to strengthen health workforces around the world.

"I am thrilled to welcome Sheila and Joe to our board," says IntraHealth president and CEO Pape Gaye. "Sheila's insights as a leading scholar on health care quality combined with her on-the-ground experience will help IntraHealth continue to apply the most effective strategies to bring high-quality health care to communities around the globe. IntraHealth is committed to engaging productively with the North Carolina business community as well, and Joe will serve a critical role in helping us achieve that in the coming years."

Leatherman is a research professor of health policy and management at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a visiting professor for five years at the London School of Economics. For almost three decades, she has worked to advance the field of health care quality around the world. Leatherman conducts research and policy analysis on quality of care and the reform of national health systems, while also working in low- and middle-income countries to design and test the effectiveness of interventions that integrate microfinance and expand health access.

"The health workforce is going to be one of our most vital concerns in public health in the coming years," Leatherman says. "If we're going to improve access to care and achieve universal health coverage, we must put a great deal more focus on not just the number of health workers, but also on their skills, knowledge and motivation."

Leatherman is a global thought leader in health care management. In 2006 in the United Kingdom, she became an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, and in 2007, she was awarded the honor of Commander of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth for over a decade of work in the National Health Service. She also holds a master's degree in social work from the University of Arkansas.

Davis is a successful entrepreneur, global investor and specialist in the area of private equity. The founder, owner and managing director of Davis Wealth Management Advisors, LLC, he has extensive experience in creating innovative solutions to challenges on the local, regional and international levels. He also has experience growing economies in developing markets. He has traveled extensively in the Balkans for 22 years, creating development opportunities in the region.

"The economies in many of the countries where IntraHealth works are in a position to expand exponentially," Davis says. "You have economies that are about to start growing and you have health care infrastructure in place to enhance the growth of those economies. Having both of those pieces in place is an opportunity for IntraHealth to help catapult the quality of health care. It's an exciting time for the organization."

Davis is regularly invited to participate in Barron's Winner's Circle Top Independent Advisors Summit, a meeting for the top 1% of financial advisors in the United States. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Campbell University.
