Since 2010, IntraHealth International and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) Gillings School of Global Public Health have teamed up to offer the IntraHealth-UNC Summer Fellows Program for graduate students. In 2019, IntraHealth and the UNC School of Nursing began offering a summer fellowship experience through the program for School of Nursing students as well.

The IntraHealth-UNC Summer Fellows Program is a 10-week experience based at IntraHealth’s Chapel Hill office and provides graduate students with a unique opportunity to contribute to global health as they work directly with IntraHealth’s programs. Students gain practical experience in technical areas, monitoring and evaluation, research, and program management.

Almost 40 IntraHealth-UNC fellows have gained real-world, hands-on experience on a range of issues including:

  • Digital health
  • HIV
  • Gender in health care
  • Family planning
  • Respectful maternity care

What do past fellows say about the program?

“This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in global health with an organization that is committed to its vision. Not only was I able to acquire new skills, but I was able to enhance my existing skills.”—Former IntraHealth-UNC fellow

“I had an excellent field experience. The project team in India was incredibly well-organized and energetic. It is a fantastic program which made it easy for me to evaluate. So many people wanted to talk about the program’s impact on their lives, careers, and health outcomes.”—Former IntraHealth-UNC fellow

“Opportunities I had with my mentors made me very comfortable with what I was doing in the team. I appreciate the really supportive attitude towards fellows.”                 —Former IntraHealth-UNC fellow

“This was an amazing opportunity and experience. I loved how welcoming the staff was and how much support and help I received during my time here at IntraHealth. I am forever grateful and hope to be in touch. Thank you all for this incredible opportunity.”—Former IntraHealth-UNC fellow
