Health Services Improvement Project

IntraHealth works with the Senegalese government to improve health care by offering a stronger, more widely available integrated package of high-quality services in 11 regions.

This includes new, high-impact practices such as integrating family planning consultations into immunization services, providing greater access to youth-friendly services, better management of pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, making essential nutrition services more widely available, and postpartum and postabortion insertion of IUDs.

We’re also expanding high-impact malaria services in all 14 regions of Senegal.

Together, we’re working to help Senegal reach its national goals and commitments for greater health and well-being.

Project Initiatives

  • Assess the health status of local populations and develop and implement context-specific action plans through our TutoratPlus performance improvement approach and by engaging health teams and facility staff.

  • Expand the use of family planning throughout Senegal. Thanks to the efforts of the Health Services Improvement Project, nearly 12,500 new clients are now using family planning.

  • Train health workers to provide high-quality maternal, neonatal, and child health. Together with our partners, we've helped train 450 health workers to manage pre-eclampsia and eclampsia.

  • Create safer workplaces for health workers. We and our partners have helped train 1,900 health workers to keep themselves and their facilities safer from infections and environmental hazards.

  • Work with the Ministry of Health and Social Action to register its health workforce using iHRIS—IntraHealth’s open source human resources information system—and to identify and solve performance issues by training health facilities in our TutoratPlus performance improvement approach.
