Guatemala

Guatemala mapGuatemala is a Central American country with wide biodiversity and a wealth of pre-Columbian monuments. A rising HIV/AIDS rate adds to the country’s challenges in recovering from years of conflict and addressing a high rate of poverty.

To improve HIV and AIDS services IntraHealth works in Guatemala through USAID’s Capacity Project to:

  • Train the faculty of regional health professional schools on preventing HIV/AIDS stigma and discrimination
  • Improve the access of health providers and universities’ faculty and students to current HIV/AIDS and TB knowledge and tools through the Internet
  • Increase the capacity of NGOs and faith-based organizations to improve the quality of life for people living with HIV
  • Support the income-generation activities of self-support networks for people living with HIV
  • Support the decentralization of HIV care and treatment through health staff performance improvement initiatives
  • Improve supervision and human resource management systems.
