El Salvador

El Salvador mapEl Salvador is a small Central American country with fertile mountains and surf-friendly beaches. After years of conflict, its continuing recovery is under threat from a rising HIV/AIDS rate.

IntraHealth works to strengthen the country’s response to HIV/AIDS through USAID’s Capacity Project by:

  • Training the faculty of regional health professional schools on preventing HIV/AIDS stigma and discrimination
  • Improving the access of health providers and universities’ faculty and students to current HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis knowledge and tools through the Internet
  • Increasing the capacity of NGOs and faith-based organizations to improve the quality of life for people living with HIV
  • Supporting the income-generation activities of self-support networks for people living with HIV
  • Supporting the decentralization of HIV care and treatment through health staff performance improvement activities
  • Improving supervision and human resource management systems.
