Ukraine

Ukraine mapThe Eastern European country of Ukraine is bordered by Belarus, Russia, Moldova, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland and the Black Sea. Its capital, Kyiv, is known as one of the most beautiful cities of Europe and has changed significantly through the centuries. Once a part of the USSR, Ukraine gained independence after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.

The IntraHealth-led Capacity Project is working with Ukrainian health care providers to improve emergency obstetric care and family planning services. The Project, along with the Ukrainian Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (UAOG) and the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (SOGC) is:

  • Working with the UAOG to align its training curriculum with national standards
  • Strengthening the knowledge and skills of individual health care providers by training UAOG members
  • Improving the UAOG’s operating infrastructure, including management, finance, operations, membership tracking and knowledge sharing
  • Assisting in implementing the SOGC’s continuing education initiative: a five-day training program for health care providers on family planning and maternal and child health care.

Donor/Project: USAID (Capacity Project)

Partners: International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO), Program for Appropriate Technology in Health, Society of Obstetricians-Gynecologists of Canada (SOGC)
