Zambian Campaign Offers 400 People HIV Testing, 1,200 Condoms Distributed
Earlier this month, IntraHealth staff in Zambia organized mobile HIV counseling and testing services for 400 people. Staff also distributed 1,200 condoms and held small group discussions on HIV and HIV prevention. Centered around World AIDS Day, this campaign also included a parade, speeches from local officials, and dramatic performances in the community, which attracted an audience of 1,500 people. The campaign slogan was “Stop AIDS. Universal Access to HIV Prevention Care and Support is a Human Right.”
In 2011, IntraHealth staff in Zambia aim to focus their HIV/AIDS activities on how people in rural communities can become more involved in the HIV response, including involving traditional leaders.
IntraHealth leads the Improving Access and Uptake of Routine Confidential Counseling and Testing Project and Prevention with Positives Project, both of which are funded by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
