Vickie Hayes-McGee, IntraHealth International Contracts Officer
“I like the fact that I am part of an organization that works to improve the lives of women, children, and families all over the world,” says Vickie Hayes-McGee, IntraHealth International Contracts officer.
Vickie, who has been with IntraHealth for more than two decades, irons out contractual details with projects, answering questions, ensuring compliance with donor regulations and policies, and processing invoices for subrecipients. She is currently working on projects in Armenia, Ethiopia, West Bank/Gaza, Madagascar, Mali, South Africa, and Zambia.
Working for a non-profit organization had not been part of Vickie’s original plan. When she graduated from the University of North Carolina with an economics degree, Vickie imagined herself working in a finance or business field with a corporation. Vickie began in an administrative role with IntraHealth (then Intrah) in 1987. She worked with the Programs Division before moving to Finance, where she works as part of the Contracts team. She feels that her experience in these two divisions—and understanding different sides—helps her manage her job more smoothly.
Vickie’s responsibilities have evolved during her 23 years at IntraHealth, and she has gained valuable experience working within various departments. “So much more meaning is added to my job when I know that what I’m doing at my desk will—in some way—help someone else across the globe.”
Working at IntraHealth has impacted Vickie as well. “It’s brought me more awareness of the issues and difficulties that women and children around the world face on a daily basis,” she explains, adding, “It has made me more appreciative of the small things in life that we sometimes take for granted.”
