The Youth Movement

A supplement to the UNAIDS OUTLOOK Report 2010 summarizes new findings that changes in sexual behavior patterns among youth populations in countries greatly affected by the HIV pandemic—many In sub-Saharan Africa— have contributed to a significant reduction in new HIV cases and overall HIV prevalence in these countries. The findings, released in full this week at the International AIDS Conference in Vienna, show that, when compared to young people in 2000, youth between 15 and 24 years of age are waiting longer to engage in sexual activities, and once they choose to do so, they have fewer partners and are more likely to use condoms.
