Save Lives with the Baby Basket Intervention
In sub-Saharan Africa many women give birth without a doctor, nurse, midwife or other health worker present. One in 16 of those women die of pregnancy-related causes—and many of their babies die along with them. What would you do if you knew that only $60 could save many of those lives?
Through IntraHealth’s Baby Basket Intervention, you can reach across the world to help these mothers. Research shows that the presence of a skilled birth attendant overwhelmingly increases the chance of survival for both mother and baby. Your $60 helps encourage women to put themselves in the care of health workers through pregnancy and a safe delivery in a health care facility.
And, the new mother and baby go home with a basket that includes flannel sheets, plastic wraps for diapers, a clean wrap skirt for the mother and flannel wrap for the infant, soap and an umbrella to shield them from the hot sun on the walk home.
Yes, it’s a world away from the baby showers you may be used to. But the good feeling you’ll get will feel very close to home.
