Pat McCarthy

I grew up among a wonderful, imperfect, and extended family connected by the shared belief that life is about recognizing the good, finding purpose, growing strong, and celebrating the gift of opportunity that comes with the each new day.  It was within family that I learned it is part of everyone’s life’s work to make a positive difference in the world and that every positive difference, no matter how small, matters.

My earliest life lessons taught me that all people everywhere are interconnected, much like my own wonderful, imperfect, and extended family.  But, there is a critical difference.  For the majority of mankind, life is short, lived in the poorest of health, and often focused fully on surviving each new day.  We lucky few, born healthy and with expectations of opportunity, well-being and long life, have the collective power, knowledge, and resources to enable improved access to quality health care where the need is greatest.        

This is the work performed by IntraHealth International as it consistently makes a positive and measurable difference in the communities it serves in the world’s developing nations. The organization helps train health workers and expand competencies among people who will go on to teach and inspire others within their communities. The knowledge, energy, and will created by this effort can strengthen infrastructures that will support continued access to improved health care, information, and services.  In this way, a healthier population begins to grow, become strong, broaden its purpose and create opportunity

Most of my career and service experiences have been involved with the delivery of information and resources to health care providers and allied health care workers in both developed and developing nations.  Being associated with IntraHealth International seems a natural extension of what I believe, what I know and much of the work I have done.  I am delighted to have this opportunity to learn about the people and programs ongoing and planned at IntraHealth and to champion both in whatever ways I can.  

As a member of its Global Health Advisory Committee, Pat McCarthy guides and steers IntraHealth’s overall fundraising efforts with individuals in the Triangle and beyond.
