Panama
Through the Central America Capacity Program, IntraHealth is working in Panama to improve the capacity of human resources for health to deliver quality HIV/AIDS care and treatment through improving preservice and in-service education, systemizing and institutionalizing performance improvement, and integrating care and treatment with community-based support.
IntraHealth’s work also includes:
- Monitoring care and treatment services by establishing a performance information system and using data for decision-making
- Supporting innovation at the health facility and community level through use of information communications technology, such as mLearning and appropriate training information systems
- Addressing cross-cutting themes by incorporating gender equity as well as stigma and discrimination reduction across all five technical strategies.
IntraHealth worked in Panama from 2006-2009 through the Capacity Project. One of the key income generating activities supported by the Project included training nongovernmental organization members in business administration, management, and chicken breeding to support a poultry farm. Income generated from the sales of three productive cycles of poultry was used to support the care and treatment needs of the associated people living with HIV.
