IntraHealth recently worked in Nigeria through the global Private Sector Partnerships (PSP)-One project, which developed partnerships to increase private sector involvement in family planning, reproductive health, and other health products and services. IntraHealth and PSP-One adapted the Quality Improvement (QI) Package previously developed and used among private midwives in Uganda for use with the Nigerian Private Midwives and Nurses Association (NPNMA).
After assessing the NPNMA’s capacity to implement a quality improvement program, IntraHealth conducted several trainings for private midwives and supervisors in Lagos in the use of the QI Package. It is expected that the introduction of the QI Package will help the NPNMA’s members review the services that they are providing and address quality gaps.
