Nepal
During 2008–2009, IntraHealth collaborated with the Support to Safe Motherhood Program to support the government’s Skilled Birth Attendant strategy. Having a skilled attendant present at all births—whether in a facility or at home—is the most critical intervention for decreasing maternal mortality, which is still high in Nepal despite significant improvement over the past decade. IntraHealth’s assistance included completing a five-year training plan, developing an advanced training course for the skilled birth attendants, revising an in-service course for medical officers and staff nurses, and producing a quality improvement tool user’s guide for trainers to strengthen maternal, newborn, and child health services and in-service training for skilled birth attendants.
