Twenty-five years ago, Marcia Angle was a young physician interested in women's reproductive health when she encountered IntraHealth International.

“I was elated to discover IntraHealth's commitment and dedication to women and children's health in the developing world,” she says. “IntraHealth is an admirably lean international organization, and their expertise around the globe is in training the trainers of health care providers, especially community-level nurses; I happily worked for IntraHealth for 17 years.”

While working for IntraHealth, Marcia saw first-hand the challenges that face those living in developing countries and what a difference could be made with just a bit of help. Marcia now serves on IntraHealth’s Global Health Advisory Committee which helps to connect people in the Triangle with the work IntraHealth is doing around the world.

“Astoundingly, the majority of people around the globe live incredibly modestly, existing on a few dollars a day, drinking contaminated water, lacking a clean place to bathe their children and themselves. . . it is very humbling. Because most deaths of infants, children and working-age adults in the developing world are due to preventable conditions—to the sad trio of infections and malnutrition and poor sanitation—a little intervention can go a long way.”

Marcia is proud to spread the word and encourage others to join her in supporting IntraHealth. “It is an honor to brag to other folks about the good work happening through IntraHealth because it is a very transparent, diligent, evidence-based training organization, and it cheers me to support folks who are part of the solution to the world's problems.”

Marcia says it is gratifying to donate locally since she can know so much more about the organization, but, she adds, “It's also gratifying to give when you can feel confident your dollars are being used carefully. In the case of IntraHealth, here in NC, I get both benefits!”
