Malaria

Malaria is the most common life-threatening infection in the world, and is responsible for over a million deaths a year. Almost 90% of those cases occur in sub-Saharan Africa, and the majority of the deaths are among children under the age of five.

IntraHealth develops malaria prevention and treatment programs to reach the most vulnerable populations: pregnant women, young children, and people living with HIV. Strategies for malaria prevention include insecticide-treated bed nets, indoor residual spraying, and intermittent preventive treatment. IntraHealth uses these approaches—along with strategies for home-based management of malaria cases and integration of malaria services with other health care—to reduce clinical malaria episodes and create sustainable prevention and treatment options for populations affected by malaria.
