IntraHealth Welcomes New Field Leader in
Southern Sudan
Earlier this month, Dr. Fauzia Khan took over as the new IntraHealth International project director in Southern Sudan. Dr. Khan studied medicine in Pakistan and holds a master’s degree in public health from Emory University. An accomplished clinical and public health professional with over a decade of management experience, she has managed HIV/AIDS projects in developing countries in collaboration with governments and worked as an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
Dr. Khan will lead the Reduce the Impact of HIV Project in Southern Sudan, a collaboration with the Sudan People's Liberation Army and its HIV/AIDS Secretariat to help keep HIV prevalence low. Dr. Khan assumes project leadership in the wake of the January 2011 national referendum, which will make Southern Sudan an independent nation in July 2011. Former Project Director Carol Karutu recently wrote a blog, Once You Drink from the Nile, You Will Come Back, about the opportunities of transition and peace in the country.
Reduce the Impact of HIV in Southern Sudan is led by IntraHealth International and funded by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
