Georgette Pokou: IntraHealth Program Officer

“Education and health are the cornerstones of any sustained development,” says Georgette Pokou. “My dream had always been to support programs in these two fields to contribute to the well-being of people in developing countries.”

Georgette has, in fact, worked in both fields. Currently an IntraHealth program officer, she previously managed education programs for more than ten years at USAID in Benin.

When she decided to shift her career focus to health in 2005, she found IntraHealth. “I wanted to pursue my career with an organization that supports health care programs and reforms in developing countries,” Georgette explains.

Now, she manages operations, finances, and logistics for IntraHealth’s Rwanda HIV/AIDS Clinical Services Project and the Eastern Caribbean HIV/AIDS Community Action Project, along with several other projects. She is a hands-on worker, visiting field sites to see the projects in action.

“I enjoy having the opportunity to be in direct contact with the people we serve—the project beneficiaries,” Georgette says. “Thus, I get a better sense of how IntraHealth’s support has changed people’s lives.”
