Encouraging Developing Country Governments

A trained, motivated, and supported health workforce provides access to vital health information and services. Health workers are essential to governments’ efforts to improve health outcomes for the population. Through its programs, IntraHealth collaborates with an array of partners to encourage developing country governments to implement evidence-based strategies that will expand access to qualified, supported health workers, especially for rural, remote, and marginalized populations. Examples include:

  • Assisting key stakeholders to come together and agree on a common agenda to strengthen the health workforce
  • Supporting developing country governments to adopt sound human resources policies for health workers
  • Accelerating and improving the supply of qualified health workers by helping countries strengthen health worker education and develop strategic approaches to in-service training and continuing professional development
  • Providing countries with practical tools and approaches to increase health worker motivation, recruitment, retention, productivity, and performance that can be tailored to the specific context of each country
  • Building, communicating, and disseminating a broad evidence base of strategies to strengthen the health workforce.
