“I believe access to health information is a human right that, as the digital divide is bridged, is becoming possible on a global scale. But it’s more than just information access that excites me,” says Elizabeth Bunch, team lead for the Knowledge Services Unit at IntraHealth. “It’s also that more people are getting engaged to solve problems. Good ideas exist everywhere.  As more people are able to connect with each other, those good ideas can come to light and spread further, faster. And that begins to shift, in big ways and small, how communities can engage, innovate and lead their own development.”

Elizabeth joined IntraHealth in 2002. In her team lead role, she oversees the design and implementation of IntraHealth’s global knowledge systems that help ensure that staff and partners stay connected, learn from each other, and keep abreast of the latest and best thinking in global health.

Although she was always interested in international development work, what drew Elizabeth to IntraHealth was that it is an international organization dedicated to local capacity building. Traveling to some of these countries deeply affected Elizabeth. “It completely changed how I live my life,” she says. “It restored my hope in humanity and what’s possible for our planet. Often I find that even in countries where there’s a struggle for resources, there’s amazing ingenuity, hopefulness, and community.”

“I can’t imagine a more promising time to be involved in health information and development,” Elizabeth adds, noting what she loves most about her job. “I believe the health development field is on the cusp of new era of innovation and impact precisely because digital knowledge sharing tools make possible a new kind of global engagement.”
