David Lindquist, Owner and Operator of Whitehall Antiques
While having long been involved in health care initiatives in the Triangle, David Lindquist felt that making a difference in the rest of the world was something beyond the reach of a North Carolina businessman. Still, he couldn’t ignore the challenges facing people living a world away.
“Although North Carolina has a very imperfect health delivery system—plagued by the problems of our entire health delivery system—we nevertheless must look beyond our own problems,” says David, a member of IntraHealth International’s Global Health Advisory Committee. “The fact is, care—at some level—is available to all Americans, yet we live in a world awash in disease, premature death, and great sadness—and clearly many of these problems can be solved.
“So while the temptation is to look inward,” he adds, “I feel we have great moral obligations beyond our borders.”
Becoming involved with IntraHealth has truly inspired David. “From the beginning of my business career I have firmly believed that we all have a social responsibility to support our community—education, arts, and health care.”
As a Global Health Advisory Committee member, David helps guide and steer IntraHealth’s fundraising efforts in the Triangle and beyond. “IntraHealth is working in health areas in such sensible ways,” David explains. “And problems which seemed insurmountable suddenly seem manageable—without vast bureaucratic waste”.
David and his daughter Elizabeth co-own and operate the nationally prominent Whitehall Antiques. They not only keep the shop open six days a week but also participate in 18 major charity antiques shows throughout the country.
