Bruce and Julie Lowery, Supporting IntraHealth Now and in the Future

Years ago, a friend introduced Bruce Lowery to what was then a small non-profit. So moved by its mission, Bruce briefly joined IntraHealth International’s team as its Chief Financial Officer to help the organization spreading its wings as an independent entity. In the process, Bruce had the chance to go to Africa and see IntraHealth’s work firsthand, in particular its work preventing HIV in newborn babies.

“It’s one thing to see it in a brochure or to hear about it,” Bruce explains, “but to hold one of these babies and be part of it makes a big difference in your life.”

Bruce and his wife, Julie, are still making a difference to IntraHealth. Having lived in Chapel Hill since 1995, when Julie started a job at UNC Hospital as a nurse anesthetist, the two have become deeply involved in the causes closest to their hearts. The Lowerys have not only donated funds, they have opened their home to host IntraHealth fundraising events and are the first people to include IntraHealth in their estate planning.

Bruce and Julie are clear about why they choose to support IntraHealth: they believe in reaching out to populations who do not have resources to improve health care. The IntraHealth community also played a role in the decision: “We know all the key people at IntraHealth,” Bruce says, “and I know how dedicated they are.” 

The Lowerys see that funding—large and small amounts both—can go a long way at IntraHealth. It’s important to them that they to take the successes they have had in their life and share it with others—even across the globe.
