Betty Schumacher: The Bookshop of Chapel Hill
I am impressed with the mission of IntraHealth International and the number of countries and communities with whom it is working. It seems a very efficiently run organization doing extremely important work around the world.
We receive several solicitations each month from all sorts of organizations. Because we’re a very small business, we can’t respond to everyone’s needs, so we try to contribute to the organizations that seem to have the most impact on the community (locally to world-wide).
I believe it’s important to share our wealth with the larger community. I think it’s important to donate to organizations with a wider outreach that impact the health and well being of diverse communities.
The Bookshop of Chapel Hill has been a fixture on Franklin Street since 1985. We have a great selection of used and rare scholarly books in the humanities, social sciences, and foreign languages, a rich supply of North Carolina and Southern history and literature, and a broad range of books in more than 90 additional categories. We list about 18,000 of our more collectible books on our web site; these represent the best of our 80,000-book inventory and those most likely to appeal to a world-wide audience. For those within driving range, we’ve been told The Bookshop is a great place to spend an afternoon—lots of books, helpful cats, and a knowledgeable staff. We’re open 7 days a week, and we buy books every day but Sunday.
