On January 29 the
Vistaar Project held its launch ceremonies in the Indian state of Jharkhand. The Chief Minister of Jharkhand graced the ceremony as the guest of honor and committed the government of Jharkhand to full support of the project. The Minister of Health and many other senior officials also participated, making several supportive and appreciative speeches. Approximately 100 guests attended the ceremony, which included tribal dance performance by adolescents girls.
Led by IntraHealth, the Vistaar Project is a five-year, US $25 million initiative to support the achievement of India's maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition objectives. Started in October 2006, this USAID/India-funded project is working initially in Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, two northern states with extensive rural populations.
