Professional Health Workers Recognized In Kenya

The IntraHealth-led
Capacity Project and professional health associations in
Kenya inaugurated the Health Worker of the Year Awards on September 24. Presided over by Kenya’s minister for medical services, the ceremony recognized exemplary individuals from 17 categories of health professions and bestowed special Frontline, Leadership and Pioneer awards. The awards are part of a Project-supported communications strategy the associations are implementing to raise the value of membership and improve the image of health professions. Susan Kajuju, a nurse hired a year ago through the Project’s Emergency Hiring Plan, received the Frontline Award for her role in educating women about modern contraceptives. The professional associations expect to make this awards ceremony an annual event. The Capacity Project will continue to support the associations in developing their governance structures.
