Capacity Project Hosts PEPFAR Meeting To Guide HRH Agenda In Uganda

In July the IntraHealth-led Capacity Project hosted a PEPFAR meeting on human resources for health (HRH) to help the USAID mission and other cooperative agencies better understand the importance of HRH and the role of the Project. Attended by 89 representatives, the meeting led to exciting immediate and long-term commitments. “We did not know that so much was happening!” many participants told the Project’s Dr. Vincent Oketcho. Immediate actions included leaders’ commitments to include HRH in their plans and budgets for FY2009 COP; support districts to address HRH issues; network to share experiences, best practices and competences; and invest in HRH infrastructure and social amenities. Long-term possible contributions involved the intention to invest in central and local government functions related to HRH; recruitment, retention, performance improvement and supervision of HRH functions; and an annual HRH meeting hosted by the Ministry of Health. The USAID mission asked the Project to coordinate these activities, including HRH policy and leadership.
