IntraHealth At The 17th International AIDS Conference
IntraHealth is making several presentations at the 17th International AIDS Conference at the Centro Banamex Convention Center in Mexico City, Mexico, August 3–8. Conference attendees can visit IntraHealth at exhibition booth 437 in area F.
On August 5, 12:30-2:30 pm, Karen Blyth, Director of HIV/AIDS Programs, will present the poster, “Addressing Pediatric HIV Prevention: Integrating Family Planning into PMTCT/Couples VCT Services in the Rural Health Centers in Rwanda.” The poster examines IntraHealth’s experiences in partnering with Rwanda’s Ministry of Health to launch this integrated service delivery approach in 25 health facilities. Blyth formerly served as a country director for IntraHealth-led projects in Rwanda.
On August 6, 12:30-2:30 pm, Blyth will present the poster, “Community-Provider Partnerships Encourage HIV/AIDS Prevention and Treatment Services Utilization in Rwanda.” Blyth will describe IntraHealth’s community-provider partnership approach, which fosters closer linkages between health staff and communities to find solutions to jointly identified problems affecting use and quality of HIV/AIDS and other health services.
On August 6, 12:30-2:30 pm, Moshi Ntabaye will present the poster, “Expanding the Fight against HIV: Scaling up Provider-Initiated Testing and Counseling in Tanzania.” Ntabaye, director of the IntraHealth-led Provider-Initiated Testing and Counseling program, will discuss experiences and lessons learned from the initiative, which is dramatically increasing the numbers of people tested in three regions of Tanzania.
On August 6, 4:30-6:00 pm, Carol Karutu, IntraHealth program manager in Southern Sudan, will co-chair the session, “Fighting AIDS under Fire: HIV Programming in Conflict and Post-Conflict Settings.” Within this session, Karutu will give an oral presentation on “Gearing up the Southern Sudanese Military to Prevent HIV/AIDS.” Karutu will discuss strategies for strengthening the Sudanese People’s Liberation Army’s HIV prevention program which sensitizes senior commanders to HIV/AIDS issues and reaches soldiers and their families with prevention messages and counselling and testing services.
