On May 27, 6:00–8:00 pm, the IntraHealth-led Capacity Project will host an auxiliary event: Improved Performance, Increased Retention—Strengthening Human Resources Management. IntraHealth’s Fatu Yumkella will participate in a panel discussion exploring how strengthening key elements of human resources management can improve health worker performance and time utilization and enable leaders and managers to more effectively support health workers. Pape Gaye, President and CEO of IntraHealth, will moderate the session “The Impact of Weak Health Systems on the Health Care Worker Crisis” on May 28, 1:45–3:45 pm, in the Ambassador Ballroom. This session will examine how various elements of health care systems affect health workforce capacity in developing countries.
On May 28, 6:00–8:00 pm in the Blue Room, IntraHealth/Rwanda staff and representatives from the Rwanda Ministry of Health will present: Progressive Vision, Positive Change—Building Capacity for a Healthier Rwanda. Highlighting the Rwandan government’s vision for universal health care, this event explores strengthening the health workforce, repositioning family planning, addressing gender-related barriers to health care, decentralizing services and building community partnerships.
Poster presentations will be on display on May 29, 10:30 am–12:30 pm, in the Blue Room Pre-function area. Linda Fogarty, of Capacity Project partner Jhpiego, will present: Sharing Knowledge—Strengthening Health Programs through Digital Libraries. This poster will examine the way the Project’s HRH Global Resource Center works to distribute information about human resources for health. Cheick Toure, along with PATH’s Susheela Engelbrecht, will present: Improving Safe Delivery via Midwifery Assistants in Mali.
Sarah Stratton will moderate the panel “Caring for the Newborn: Revisiting PMTCT and Post-Natal Care,” on May 29, 2:30–4:30 pm. Held in the Empire Ballroom, this panel will cover the importance of integrating quality PMTCT programs and postnatal maternal and newborn health care for HIV positive and negative mothers, in the context of Swaziland’s health care system.
On May 29, 2:30–4:30 pm, IntraHealth staff will give presentations during three Roundtable sessions. Elizabeth Fischer will present, “Reaching High-Risk Communities through Private-Sector Providers,” in the Ambassador Ballroom. David Mason will talk on, “Global Health, Open Source Development and Online Community,” in the Palladian Ballroom. Gerard Ngendahimana will discuss, “Extending HIV/AIDS Services through Mobile District Physicians,” in the Ambassador Ballroom.
Anne Wilson, Director of the Capacity Project, will moderate the panel “Taking the Lead: Youth Leadership and Peer Education to Improve Health” on May 30, 2:15–4:15 pm, in the Empire Ballroom. This panel will examine programs in Nepal and Central America to improve health outcomes through youth involvement and training.
