Dr. Ok Pannenborg

Ok Pannenborg has worked in over 20 countries for the World Health Organization, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the World Bank (where he was chief health advisor), and other organizations. Previously he lived and worked in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Congo, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. Following his retirement he served as co-chair of the IntraHealth-led CapacityPlus project’s Global Advisory Board on Strengthening Medical, Nursing, and Public Health Schools in Developing Countries, as an interim director at PAHO/WHO, as an advisor to the World Bank’s efforts to enhance higher education in low- and middle-income countries, and as chairman of the Netherlands Government Commission on Global Health Research, as well as the Royal Tropical Institute Advisory Board on Health. Over the last twenty years he has been a leader in prioritizing reform of health & medical education globally. He holds degrees from the medical and law schools of the Universities of Groningen, Amsterdam, and Toronto.
